Do you ever want to just learn about something totally different?

Something with a strange face, living a strange life, a totally unique natural history, a new story you've never heard before.

This is what I see when I draw. I am intensely fascinated by the evolution of living things, whether they're a delightfully weird extinct creature, a human-selected animal companion, or a garden vegetable that feeds us from the earth.

Every living thing I draw has its own rich and deep history. Even the ones most ordinary to us, like our pet dogs and cats. They come from ancestral animals who took a huge gamble, thousands of years ago, by approaching the deadliest apex predator the world has ever seen. Now we have dogs snoring on the couch and cats yelling for wet food in our homes.

It’s wonderful! I love that.

My insatiable curiosity has led to this rabbit-hole nomad life of mine, from late-night hyper-fixations on fossil evidence and dissection videos, stud books and seed banks, all the way to creating heartfelt pet portraits & bold hand-embellished prints, and learning to draw plants from my humble front porch garden. My pursuit of answers always uncovers more and more questions, and that's my favorite part.

There’s so much beauty to be found in the stories of living things. Nature is far more creative and bizarre than any movie or novel.
